Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If you have any further questions not covered in these FAQs, don't hesitate to ask us via email.

WHEN DOES THE STRENGTH SCHOOL START?

  • We begin our sessions on 14 August 2018.

WHAT WILL ‘THE STRENGTH SCHOOL’ HELP ME ACHIEVE?

  • Confidence and improvement in complex exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead movements etc.

  • An understanding of principles that influence programming and nutrition to help you take ownership of your own training and diet.

  • Knowledge on how to structure an exercise program such as choosing exercises, how and why to select certain weights and rep ranges, how to progress or regress exercises for your skill level.

IS 10 WEEKS ‘LONG ENOUGH’?

  • 3 group sessions a week over 10 weeks = 30 sessions. That’s 30 in depth, hands on training sessions for us to coach you on how to best take control of your training. Coupled with any additional sessions you complete following one of our personalised programs and nutrition coaching, we are confident that 8 weeks is sufficient enough to give you the knowledge that can be applied to your long term fitness goals.

WHY 3 GROUP SESSIONS A WEEK?

  • We want you to attend as many sessions as you’re able to consistently get to, whether it be one session or all three.

  • The 3 different group sessions are programmed to focus on different components of strength training, but are still designed to allow for anyone who missed other sessions to play catch up; we understand that, sometimes, life happens.

DO I HAVE TO DO TRAINING ON MY OWN?

  • We want to create a team mindset with ‘The Strength School.’ This is in large part why we have multiple group sessions in the one week; so you can all train together as a team. Now of course there are times where you will want to train on your own and that’s completely fine too. That’s also where our personalised programs for additional sessions are convenient.

DO I NEED TO DO ONE-ON-ONE PERSONAL TRAINING?

  • Not necessarily since The Strength School and your personalised program will be tailored for you, but working closely with a PT can fast track progress/results. If you’re concerned about needing more assistance, don’t hesitate to ask us. We’re here to help you whenever you need us.

I ALREADY DO PERSONAL TRAINING SESSIONS. DO I NEED TO STOP THESE?

  • Personal training and ‘The Strength School’ can go very much hand in hand. What you learn in our Strength School sessions can be taken into personal training sessions, and vice versa.

CAN YOU HELP ME WITH MY NUTRITION?

  • To be transparent, we are not dietitians. We cannot give specific meal plans or prescribe anything intended to treat any diseases or conditions. What we can do is give evidence-based nutrition recommendations to help you with your goals. We can help you make adjustments to assist in making your nutrition plan as easy to adhere to as possible.

WHAT IF I’M NOT CONFIDENT WITH SQUATS/DEADLIFTS/ETC?

  • Movements are broken down so that you are taught how to perform them properly and safely first.

  • There’s always a way regress and progress a movement, to tailor to your individual skill, capability, and comfort level

DO I HAVE TO GO HEAVY?

  • No, not at all. Strength training should be progressive and challenging for you, and while lifting heavier weights is an important component in enhancing strength you won’t be forced to do anything you are uncomfortable with. That said, we are here to help you in any way we can to challenge yourself.

  • There is however, much more to strength training than just lifting heavy weights. For example, skill acquisition is a very important part of strength training as everyone is generally at a different stage in lifting experience. Training your skill in a certain exercise doesn’t require you to go heavy, and your performance in that exercise will improve.

I’VE NEVER DONE STRENGTH TRAINING BEFORE. SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

  • The highest priority with any training program should be safety. This is why spending enough time learning, practising, and developing good technique is so important. It allows you to keep exercising consistently.

  • The program and exercises are suited to your individual skills and capabilities, and training will become easier or more complex depending on how comfortable you are and confidently you can perform certain exercises.
